With an all-star cast, Spike Lee's latest project, Chi-Raq gives us an up close and personal look at what it's like living in, America's most violent city, Chicago. Looking like a war zone in some areas, the city was given the nickname of Chi-Raq (Chicago + Iraq) because the homicides and violence is comparable to the living conditions in Iraq. The film will be in theaters December 4th, 2015, starring Nick Cannon, Teyonah Parris, Anya Engel-Adams, Wesley Snipes and Angela Bassett. Check out the trailer below.
After the murder of a child by a stray bullet, a group of women led by Lysistrata organize against the on-going violence in Chicago's Southside creating a movement that challenges the nature of race, sex and violence in America and around the world.
Oh Snaps!!!! This one looks good. In September, The Perfect Guy, will be coming to a theater near you. Starring Sanaa Lathan, Michael Ealy and Morris Chestnut, this movie looks like is gonna be crazy. Lathan's character takes a break from her boyfriend, played by Chestnut. She meets Ealy and is taken in by him charm, not knowing he is bat shit crazy under those baby blue eyes. Can't wait to see how this one plays out. I'm not sure if you all watch The Following on the FOX network. The, now cancelled, series featured Ealy as a psychotic killer and omg he playeddd his part. I loved seeing him in a not so typical role. Anyway check out the trailer for The Perfect Guy below.
Man a lot was going on this past weekend. Furious 7 killed the box office after it's release on Friday, April 3rd. Beyonce and Rihanna both released new videos via Tidal. Also #SweetPwussySatyday was jeopardized after Plies encountered a crazed fan on stage. LOLLLL
SoOo first up, the numbers are in and mannn did Furious 7 take off this weekend. The last installment of the Fast and the Furious series broke some serious new records for Universal.
Rivaling the staying power of Hollywood's most iconic franchises — think Harry Potter and James Bond — Universal's Furious 7 raced to a $147.2 million debut at the North American box office and an estimated $245.1 million overseas for a massive worldwide launch of $392.3 million, the fourth-best of all time.
The global total came even higher than Sunday's estimates thanks to stronger-than-expected traffic on Easter. On Sunday, the domestic estimate was $143.6 million, while the international estimate was $240.4 million.
Furious 7 — the final film featuring the late Paul Walker — is the second major victory of the year for Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley and her team after Fifty Shades of Grey, which on Good Friday jumped the $400 million mark overseas for a global cume of $566 million through Sunday.
I have yet to see the movie but I have heard awesome things. I will be checking that out this weekend. Heard it has a very emotional ending.
Next up let's ride this new wave with Beyonce and Rihanna. They both dropped new music for Tidal! Beyonce released Die With You, a song to her bae Jay Z for their 7th anniversary! It's a very beautiful ballad. #aww
Rihanna also dropped her new video for her new patriotic song American Oxygen! Taking a more political approach, the video shows unforgettable images in American history.
Like its American Dream-grasping lyrics, the "American Oxygen" video similarly gazes inwards towards the nation, resulting in an experience that's the visual equivalent of Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire." The 1969 moon landing, the Black Power salute at the 1968 Summer Olympics, 9/11, Martin Luther King Jr.'s funeral procession and Beatlemania are among the many historical events that fill the screen.
Every link to the video was taken down asap. So you better watch this before it gets taken down.
And finally....Pliesssss! Mr Sweet Pwussy Satday himself went and got himself slam dunked over the weekend. Apparently he and a fan (using the term lightly due to the circumstances LOL) got into an exchange of words and the man was able to pick lil Plies off of his feet and slammed him on his head. #ouch Y'all know Plies is about the size of Tweety bird. Hiw whole security staff needs to be FIREDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!
Damnnnnnn son! So sweet pwussy satday was on hold while Plies got his life and security together !!! HA!
Meanwhile here's footage of the culprit in question and his explanation as to why he had to take Plies for the slam!!
Well well well we finally get a glimpse of what Dr. Dre and Ice Cube have been working on in this new trailer for Straight Outta Compton. Based on the lives of members in the legendary gangster rap group N.W.A. the movie gives us a raw look into Compton and it's tumultuous times from their point of view.
In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these young men revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.
Starring O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, Straight Outta Compton is directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, The Italian Job). The drama is produced by original N.W.A. members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, who are joined by fellow producers Matt Alvarez and Tomica Woods-Wright. Will Packer serves as executive producer of the film alongside Gray.
The trailer is actually pretty dope. I might have to check this one out! Straight Outta Compton will be in theaters August 14th.
Speaking of Compton, check out Kendrick Lamar's new video for King Kunta:
Yasssss I loved the movie ATL. Can't wait to see what New New, Rashad and nem have been doing with their loves since 2006. TI dropped the news via instagram posting new pics from the set.
The original ATL debuted in theaters at No. 3, grossing $11.5 million in its opening weekend. The coming-of-age film is loosely based on the experiences of the film’s producers, Dallas Austin and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, growing up in Atlanta. T.I. played the main character Rashad. Other stars included Big Boi of OutKast, Evan Ross, and Lauren London. It’s official. Nearly a decade since its release, T.I. has confirmed that a sequel to the 2006 movie ATL is in the works.
No word on any release dates yet, but ATL the sequal will be coming soon. Will keep you posted!
Despite the stereotypes this movie it may be worth a watch. I mean we watch Empire every week right? You can check out Brotherly Love in theaters April 24th.
"Look Ma I made it" has to be what Kevin Hart is saying these days. Will Ferrell is a legend lmao
These two will be in a theater near you starring in their film Get Hard. In the film Kevin Hart has to teach Will how to be hard in order to survive in jail. The catch is Kevin has no clue on the subject, setting Will up for epic failure. This shall be interesting. Get Hard will be in theaters March 27th.
In lieu of new movie 50 Shades of Grey that will be in theaters this weekend, Lance Gross decided to drop his own sensual photos inspired by the film. Yes, when he's not busy acting, he's kind of a big deal when it comes to this photography thing. Featuring an all star cast, Angela Simmons, Robert C. Riley, Kaelynn Harris, Don Benjamin and many other familiar faces. #verysexyindeed

So I finally got the chance to watch this documentary that premiered on OWN a little while ago. "Light Girls", the sequel to critically acclaimed "Dark Girls" is a good watch. (No surprise there because I loved that one as well) Tackling, the pink elephant in the room, colorism:
From the creator and director of the critically acclaimed documentary Dark Girls, award-winning filmmaker Bill Duke continues the conversation on colorism with Light Girls. Sharing the untold stories and experiences of lighter-skinned women, Light Girls dives deep into the discussion of skin color, preference, privilege, pain and prejudice. The documentary features interviews with Russell Simmons, Soledad O'Brien, Diahann Carroll, India Arie, Iyanla Vanzant, Michaela Angela Davis, Kym Whitley, Salli Richardson-Whitfield and more.
What can I say? This is extremely relevant to the world we live in now. As a black woman of lighter skin tone I can definitely relate to the stigma and stereotypes of how light is right and dark is wrong. We tend to forget or ignore the fact that we too as black people, as well as other cultures, discriminate against our own. Colorism is a real thing and I can't stand it!!!! It's very disturbing to me because I've seen some of the most beautiful women in ALL shades of color. Melanin is in hunty, no matter the shade of pigment! #youarebeautiful
If you missed "Light Girls", you can watch it in its entirety below.
A 1982 movie classic gets a modern makeover in 2014. Starring Quvenzhané Wallis as Annie, Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx, "Annie" premiered over the weekend and of course the Carter's were in attendance.
This movies brings back memories. Can't wait to check it out in theaters, just in time for Christmas, Ded 19th.
BuzzFeed shared the exclusive world premiere of the trailer for "Whitney", starring Yaya DaCosta and directed by Angela Bassett. Ok Lifetime we may have something here. I must say this IS NOT another Aaliyah movie. I am actually impressed and looking forward to it now. Yaya better bring it!!!!
Whitney airs Jan 17th at 8/7C on Lifetime.
In the meantime please check out the trailer via BuzzFeed.
After bombing the whole entire Aaliyah movie, the Lifetime channel has some making up to do. Once again after a family of another fallen star stood strongly against the production of a biopic movie, Lifetime took matters in its own hands and did it anyway.
The biopic, starring America's Next Top Model contestant, Yaya DaCosta, simply titled "Whitney" will premiere January 17, 2015 at 8/7c!!!
Golden Globe® Award winner and Academy Award® nominee Angela Bassett makes her directorial debut with the Lifetime Original Movie "Whitney," featuring Yaya DaCosta (Lee Daniels’ "The Butler") in the lead role with Arlen Escarpeta ("Final Destination 5") alongside her as Bobby Brown.
"Whitney" chronicles the headline-making relationship between the iconic singer, actress, producer and model Whitney Houston and singer and songwriter Bobby Brown from the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity to their courtship and tumultuous marriage. Throughout it all, difficulties followed the superstar couple while they dealt with the overwhelming rewards and consequences of the fame and fortune created by Houston’s meteoric rise that would soon overshadow them both.
Houston’s vocal performances in the film are sung by Grammy®-nominated and multiplatinum-selling entertainer Deborah Cox. The music featured in the film includes Houston’s hits “The Greatest Love of All,” “I’m Your Baby Tonight,” “I’m Every Woman” and “I Will Always Love You” as well as Brown’s “Every Little Step.”
Produced by The Sanitsky Company, "Whitney" is executive produced by Larry Sanitsky ("Betty & Coretta"). Shem Bitterman ("Betty & Coretta") wrote the script.
Following the movie’s premiere, Lifetime will air the hour-long documentary "Beyond the Headlines: Whitney Houston" at 10/9c, providing an in-depth look at the life and death of Houston. Interviews with friends – including longtime friend Darlene Love – colleagues and industry insiders will offer personal reflections and insight into the life and career of this American songstress and the tragic circumstances of her downfall. "Beyond the Headlines: Whitney Houston" is produced by Peacock Productions.
Ummm so yeah, good luck with that! After that Aaliyah debacle I'm a little worried. Why they keep going against these people's families when they say NO to these productions is beyond me. #fixitjeezus Hopefully they will win us over this time! If not I know instgram and twitter will get them together!!! LOL
For behind the scenes footage and more info on the movie please visit Entertainment Tonight!
Omggggggg if you witnessed the foolery that aired on the Lifetime channel over the weekend then you already know where this post is going. The network, along with Executive Producer Wendy Williams, tried it!!!!! "Aaliyah: Princess of R&B" was bad! Reallllly bad!!! There were so many things going against this movie I don't understand how it was even released. As a musical artist the first strike was not being able to use any of her music due to restrictions placed by Aaliyah's family. That alone should have scrapped the whole project but nOoo they forced it. Then to add insult to injury these mediocre #catfish versions of characters were no where close to the real artists we know and love. The disaster that played out on the screen was laughable. And then that ending!!!!!!!!!! BOOO Wendy! BOOO Lifetime. #donttryagain
Twitter and Instagram were set a blaze with various memes during and after the broadcast.
(The memes were actually better than the movie.)
Here are a few of my favorites LMAO
And of course "Donkey of the Day:
Update:
Wendy Williams doesn't care what we think. LOL She totally brushed off the epic production failure today during her Hot Topics Segment!!! #delusional #bishplease #sideeyeon100
